Government to Improve Health Facilities in the Country– Health Minister

The Health Minister has said that plans are underway to prioritise and retool government health facilities, as part of broader primary healthcare reforms aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery at the grassroots.

The Minister disclosed this on Saturday during a surprise working visit to the Asesewa Government Hospital in the Eastern Region as part of the government’s renewed effort to strengthen healthcare delivery and promote Universal Health Coverage (UHC). He also assessed the state of infrastructure at the facility and engaged directly with management and frontline health workers about challenges affecting service delivery.

“This is an infrastructure gap that has accumulated over the years. The government is committed to addressing these challenges, but management must also take necessary local decisions to improve service delivery while we work on the broader interventions,” he emphasised.

During the hospital tour, the Minister described the long-standing infrastructure deficits, noting that some existing facilities were inadequate to meet the growing healthcare needs of the population in Asesewa and surrounding communities.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to addressing infrastructural gaps in health facilities, with improved infrastructure identified as a cornerstone of Universal Health Coverage, intended to ensure that every citizen has access to health care without financial hardships.

The Health Minister assured the hospital of support to improve staffing levels, indicating that additional health professionals would be posted to the facility to ease workload pressures and improve patient care

Adding that the importance of equitable postings, particularly to hard-to-reach areas, urging hospital management to support health workers posted to such communities rather than resist their deployment.
