Government Safely Evacuates Ghanaians from Israel Amid Regional Tensions

The Government of Ghana has completed the evacuation of its nationals from Israel, with all citizens who requested assistance safely returned home.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Samuel OkudzetoAblakwa disclosed this on Thursday that evacuation operation was carried out through Ghana’s embassy in Tel Aviv and involved coordination with regional partners to secure safe passage for the evacuees.

He said the exercise also included the withdrawal of some diplomatic staff, although a small number of embassy officials remain to maintain essential consular services.

“Our evacuation operation in Israel has been a success and we have safely evacuated all Ghanaians who expressed the desire to be assisted by the Government of Ghana out of Israel back home”, he said.

According to him, the decision to maintain a limited diplomatic presence in Israel will allow the mission to respond to the needs of any Ghanaian nationals who may still require support.

The minister also commended authorities in both Israel and Egypt for their cooperation during the evacuation process, which involved careful coordination across borders.

He said the government was grateful to the Israeli and Egyptian authorities for their cooperation, which made the complex evacuation operation possible, adding that the MahamaAdministration would continue to prioritise the safety and welfare of all Ghanaians wherever they may be.

Mr Ablakwa said the Foreign Affairs Ministry will continue to monitor developments in Israel and the wider region while remaining ready to assist any Ghanaian nationals who may still need help.

The evacuees arrived in Accra and were received by government officials and relevant agencies, while officials say the exercise forms part of a series of emergency responses by the government aimed at protecting Ghanaian citizens abroad during periods of insecurity in different parts of the world.
