The government has begun implementing the Greenville District Housing Programme as part of efforts to bridge Ghana’s housing deficit, the Minister for Works and Housing, Mr Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, has announced.
He disclosed this at the opening of the National Homeownership Fair on Wednesday, 4th March 2026, in Accra.
The Minister explained the programme involves the construction of 20 two-bedroom housing units with requisite infrastructure, and is expected to be extended to all 261 districts in subsequent phases.
“The Greenville initiative is currently being piloted in eight districts,” he said.
Mr Adjei noted that with clear policies, strong institutions, and active private sector participation, Ghana’s housing challenge can be transformed into a development success story.
The National Homeownership Fair, a two-day public event, provides prospective homeowners with the opportunity to engage directly with estate developers, financial institutions, and other stakeholders in the built industry to explore mortgage options and other pathways to homeownership.
