GIS Receives Major Operational Equipment from Germany to Enhance Security

The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has received a significant boost to its operational capacity following the donation of essential equipment valued at GH¢1,774,000 from the German Government.

The support package, which includes a 16-seater Foton View CS2 bus, laptops, tablets, printers, helmets, and bulletproof vests, is designed to enhance border security operations and improve officer safety.

The gesture forms part of Germany’s sustained bilateral assistance to Ghana in combating irregular migration and transnational crime across the West African sub-region.

Receiving the items on behalf of the Service, Comptroller General of GIS, Mr Samuel Basintale Amadu, expressed deep appreciation to the German Government for its continued commitment to strengthening Ghana’s border management efforts.

He noted that the donation would play a vital role in improving operations, particularly along the northern frontier, which has been identified as a high-risk area.

Mr Basintale Amadu highlighted the longstanding partnership between the GIS and the German Government, emphasising that such support has consistently contributed to enhancing the quality of service delivery.

He assured the German delegation that the equipment would be put to effective use to advance the Service’s mandate.

Germany’s Defence Attaché to Ghana, Mr Holger Grossman, reaffirmed his government’s dedication to supporting regional security.

He stated that Germany remains committed to helping Ghana strengthen its borders and promote safe and regulated migration.

Mr Grossman added that the donation is a reflection of Germany’s confidence in the GIS and its ongoing efforts to build capacity and improve operations.
