The Deputy Minister for the Interior, Mr. Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, has urged the newly reconstituted Governing Council of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) to collaborate effectively in advancing excellence in migration management and national security.

Speaking at the GIS Governing Council Retreat on Friday in Accra, he underscored the Service’s crucial role in safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty, integrity, and internal security.

Mr. Terlabi highlighted the GIS’s contribution to national security, particularly in monitoring and regulating the movement of persons, securing borders, and overseeing the activities of foreign nationals.

He stressed the need for council members to partner closely with GIS leadership to fulfil its mandate, noting that collective wisdom would drive progress and innovation.

Expressing confidence in the council’s deliberations, he said their work would yield positive outcomes, especially in advancing the Service’s expansion agenda.

He encouraged members to project a positive image of both GIS and Ghana, while working diligently to support the vision of resetting the Service.

The Council Chair, Rev. Dr. Stephen Yenusom Wengam, thanked members for their commitment and pledged the council’s dedication to excellence in service delivery, in line with government priorities such as the 24-hour economy and the Feed Ghana Project.

The Comptroller-General of GIS, Mr. Samuel Basintale Amadu, added that the retreat would enable the Service to brief the Governing Council on its operations, challenges, and strategies for addressing them.
