GHPAC Hosts Independence Cocktail Reception Celebrating Ghana-Diaspora Relations

The Ghana Diaspora Public Affairs Collective (GHPAC) has hosted a cocktail reception bringing together policymakers, members of the African diaspora, and friends of Ghana to celebrate the country’s independence and the enduring bond with its global diaspora community.

Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Victor Emmanuel Smith, attended the event and reflected on the historic importance of Ghana’s independence and its lasting impact on the African continent.

The Ambassador paid tribute to Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, acknowledging the visionary leadership and sacrifices that led Ghana to become the first sub-Saharan African nation to gain independence from colonial rule in 1957.

This achievement, according to him, inspired liberation movements across Africa.

U.S. Congresswoman Gwen Moore addressed the gathering, speaking about the richness and global influence of African culture.

She shared reflections from her visit to Ghana, praising the country’s vibrant cultural heritage and the warmth of its people.

On his part, U.S. Congressman Donald Beyer Jr. emphasized the enduring legacy of African and African-diaspora leaders who have shaped diplomacy, scholarship, and international cooperation.

He referenced notable figures including W. E. B. DuBois and former United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan, praising their contributions to global diplomacy and the advancement of African voices on the world stage.

The event was organised to commemorate Ghana’s 69th independence anniversary and recognize the contributions of the diaspora community to Ghana’s development and international standing.

The reception served as both a celebration of Ghana’s historic journey to independence and a reaffirmation of the strong cultural, historical, and diplomatic ties between Ghana and the African diaspora.

Through dialogue and fellowship, the gathering emphasized the shared commitment to strengthening partnerships that promote cultural exchange, mutual understanding, and collective progress.

The cocktail reception provided an opportunity for networking and strengthening relationships between Ghanaian representatives and U.S. lawmakers committed to advancing Ghana-U.S. relations.
