The Republic of Ghana and the State of Qatar have officially exchanged instruments of ratification for a Labour Mobility Agreement, marking a significant step toward strengthening bilateral cooperation in employment and migration.
The exchange took place last Friday, with the Chief Director of Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Khadija Iddrisu, and Qatar’s Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Khalid Bin Jabor Saif Jasser Al-Mesallam, signing the official notes.
The Ambassador stated that the agreement establishes a comprehensive framework to improve labour mobility governance, streamline migration processes, and foster collaboration in skills development and employment.
She noted that the initiative aligns with Ghana’s national priorities to expand access to decent job opportunities while ensuring the protection and welfare of Ghanaian workers abroad.
On his part, Ambassador Al-Mesallam described the agreement as mutually beneficial, highlighting its potential to create employment opportunities for Ghanaians in key sectors in Qatar while safeguarding workers’ rights and welfare.
He reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to ensuring safe and fair working conditions for all employees.
Both parties underscored the importance of sustained engagement and regular consultations to ensure the effective implementation of the agreement.
The ratification signals a deepening of relations between Ghana and Qatar, particularly in the area of labour migration and workforce development.
