The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has denied reports claiming it has approved overseas registration and renewal of Ghanaian driving licenses by staff of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority.
The Ministry said its attention had been drawn to a viral headline alleging that DVLA officials had been cleared to travel to the United States of America, Canada, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Germany to provide licensing services to Ghanaians in the diaspora.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday in Accra.
“It stated categorically that it has neither issued a directive to our diplomatic missions abroad nor granted approval to any entity for such an arrangement,” it added.
According to the release, the Ministry is not aware of any new government policy to that effect. And there is no record available at the Ministry pointing to this purported new policy direction.
It said for the avoidance of doubt, there has been no formal engagement, no new policy brought to their attention, and no financial commitment, as irrefutable evidence at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Ministry assured the general public of its commitment to transparency and financial prudence in public service delivery.
