Foreign Affairs Minister Coordinates Safety Strategy for Ghanaians in the Middle East; No Casualties Reported

The Foreign Affairs Minister, Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has convened a virtual meeting with Ambassadors and Consuls General stationed in the Middle East to evaluate the latest developments and consider additional consular actions to ensure the safety of Ghanaians in the region.

The meeting held on Tuesday, in Accra, was attended by representatives from Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, the UAE, Iran, and Turkey.

The Minister shared positive news, stating, “I am glad to report that so far, no Ghanaian has been killed or injured.”

He informed them about a newly established database that includes all Ghanaians residing in these countries, encompassing both short-term visitors and transit travellers.

“This database will enable us to respond swiftly to the needs of our citizens,” he added.

According to him, each diplomatic mission has been charged with identifying Ghanaians who wish to be evacuated, ensuring that these requests can be addressed promptly.

“We are committed to facilitating the safe return of our nationals,” he noted.

Mr Ablakwa added that diplomatic missions are actively helping many Ghanaians reach key border crossings to ensure safer passage.

He stated that the safety and welfare of all Ghanaians remain the government’s highest priority, underscoring its ongoing commitment to protecting citizens abroad.
