Eastern Regional Peace Council Leads Safe School Campaign Against Substance Abuse

The Eastern Regional Peace Council (ERPC) has intensified efforts to promote peace and discipline among students through a Safe School sensitisation programme held at Larteh Presby Senior High Technical School.

The educational outreach, in collaboration with the Narcotics Control Commission and Peace Desk Officers of the Akuapem North Municipal Assembly, engaged more than 300 students on the urgent need to combat substance abuse and its growing impact on schools and communities.

Officials from the Narcotics Control Commission educated students on the dangers associated with drug use, outlining its harmful effects on academic performance, mental health, behaviour, and long-term opportunities.

Students were also reminded of the legal implications tied to drug-related offences, including arrest, prosecution, suspension, and possible imprisonment.

Speaking during the session, Snr. Programs Manager of ERPC, Mr Osmond Appiah Danquah, spoke on the direct connection between substance abuse and violent behaviour and urged students to reject destructive influences, instead embracing discipline, responsibility, and peaceful conduct.

“The choices young people make today will determine the future of our communities. Peace begins with self-discipline and informed decisions,” he noted.

The programme further encouraged students to seek support when facing challenges and to serve as ambassadors of peace within their schools and surrounding communities.

The initiative is part of the National Peace Council’s ongoing efforts to create safer learning environments, strengthen youth development, and promote lasting peace across the Eastern Region.
