Deputy Works and Housing Minister Urges Action on Industrial Wastewater

The Deputy Minister for Works and Housing, Madam Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui, has called on industries to invest in efficient wastewater treatment technologies as part of responsible production practices.

She appealed to this year’s World Water Day Forum on Industrial Wastewater, organised by the Danish Embassy at Nutrifoods Ghana Ltd’s Tasty Tom factory in Tema last Friday.

Pointing to the scale of the challenge, the Deputy Minister noted that over 95 per cent of industrial wastewater is discharged untreated into the environment, with serious consequences for ecosystems and human health.

Madam Tetteh-Agbotui further urged regulators and municipal authorities to strengthen enforcement while supporting innovation, stressing that effective collaboration is key to addressing the problem and promoting sustainable industrial practices.
