Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority delegation pays courtesy call on Tourism Minister

A delegation from the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority has paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, as part of activities marking the sorority’s 118th Founder’s Day celebrations in Ghana.

During the engagement on Tuesday, in Accra, the minister stated the government’s commitment to deepening engagement with the Ghanaian diaspora as part of efforts to promote tourism beyond seasonal peaks.

She noted that although the visit was arranged at short notice, the ministry considered it important due to the role diaspora groups play in promoting tourism, culture, and the creative arts.

“Future engagements would be more formally scheduled to allow wider participation from the ministry’s agencies and other stakeholders in the sector,” the minister added.

Madam Gomashie indicated that a brochure submitted by the delegation outlining proposed activities would be reviewed to determine areas where her office and the Chief Executive Officer of the ministry’s agencies could be directly involved.

According to her, follow-up meetings would be organised at mutually agreed-upon times to deepen collaboration.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Diallo Sumbry, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Adinkra Group, disclosed that about 500 members of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority are currently in Ghana for the celebrations.

He noted that diaspora networks have the potential to mobilise even larger numbers in support of Ghana’s tourism and cultural initiatives.

He highlighted that, beyond the popular December festive season, several culturally significant periods throughout the year inspire diaspora travel to Ghana, presenting opportunities for sustained, year-round tourism promotion.

Both the delegation and the ministry expressed optimism that the courtesy call would serve as a springboard for deeper collaboration, leveraging diaspora partnerships to further position Ghana as a leading destination for tourism, culture, and creative engagement.
