Ablakwa Calls for Global Peace and Humanitarian Reflection at Ramadan Iftar

The Foreign Affairs Minister, Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has called for prayers and peace during the holy month of Ramadan in light of the ongoing humanitarian crises in the Middle East.

He said this at the second edition of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Ramadan Iftar Dinner on Wednesday in Accra.

The Minister, emphasising the core values of Ramadan, called for a collective reflection that encourages individuals to look beyond themselves and recommit to principles that strengthen humanity and promote peaceful coexistence.

He referenced teachings from the Koran, which serve as a reminder of shared humanity, emphasising the importance of coming from diverse backgrounds to promote understanding and foster connections among people.

The minister, acknowledging the presence of the diplomatic community, stated that “Your presence tonight reinforces the strong bonds of friendship and mutual respect that exist between our country and the international community.”

Mr Ablakwa highlighted the necessity for dialogue amidst global challenges, noting that the gathering serves as a beacon of hope for collaboration in finding solutions to widespread conflicts and humanitarian issues.

Mr Ablakwa took a moment to honour the National Chief Imam for his enduring role in fostering national unity and interfaith harmony.

“The blessing of having a leader like the National Chief Imam strengthens the fabric of our society; we are indeed fortunate to have such a moral compass in our nation,” he added.

He encouraged Muslims observing the fast to share the blessings of this special month by spreading the blessings they receive during Ramadan and letting them flow into their communities.

On his part, a representative from the Office of the National Chief Imam, Dr Mohammed Marzuq Abubakar Azindoo, highlighted the ceremony as an opportunity to reaffirm commitments to religious pluralism, patriotism, Pan-Africanism, and multilateralism.

He reminded participants of the values central to humanity’s progress, connecting these themes to Quranic principles.

Dr Azindoo made a poignant connection between the themes of Ramadan and diplomacy, urging sincerity and dedication among diplomats in addressing the serious challenges facing humanity.
