A 29-member delegation from the Malawi Defence Force Senior Command and Staff College, led by Colonel Alfred Luciano Matambo, has paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Defence to gain insights into the country’s strategic approach to combating transnational organised crime and enhancing regional security.

Speaking on behalf of the Deputy Minister for Defence last Friday in Accra, the Principal General Staff Officer, Brigadier General Ben Gah, commended the Malawi Defence Force for selecting Ghana as a model for strategic defence studies.

He highlighted Ghana’s extensive experience in regional peacekeeping operations and its integrated, multi-sectoral approach to addressing transnational threats, an approach that continues to serve as a benchmark for many African nations.

Brigadier General Gah also underscored Ghana’s ongoing commitment to promoting stability within the West African sub-region through collaborative defence diplomacy, intelligence sharing, and capacity-building initiatives under the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) framework.

Colonel Matambo expressed his delegation’s appreciation for the warm reception and reaffirmed Malawi’s commitment to strengthening bilateral and regional partnerships in pursuit of peace, stability, and collective security across Africa.

The visit underscores the growing importance of inter-African military cooperation in addressing shared security challenges such as terrorism, piracy, human trafficking, and other transnational crimes that threaten the continent’s peace and development.

As part of the study tour, the delegation also visited the Ghana Armed Forces, the Ghana Air Force, and the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) to learn about Ghana’s operational strategies for combating narcotics trafficking and other organised crimes.
