Gov’t to strengthen tripartite dialogue among government, employers and workers – Labour minister

The Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Dr. Rashid Pelpuo, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening tripartite dialogue among government, employers, and workers.

He said this at the 80th Anniversary celebration of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) held in Accra, under the theme “Eight decades of mobilising workers and seeking social justice: a historical perspective on the initiative of TUC and the working class.”

He commended the TUC for its unwavering role in championing the rights and welfare of Ghanaian workers over the past eight decades.

He described the milestone as a proud moment in Ghana’s labour history and a testament to the resilience, sacrifices and collective spirit of the nation’s workforce.

He noted that since its formation in 1945, the TUC has been a formidable force in shaping Ghana’s democratic journey, advancing social justice, and ensuring the protection of workers’ rights.

“Your collective hard work has not only strengthened the TUC but also impacted the development and transformation of Ghana’s economy. This is proof that when we work together, we can overcome any obstacle,” he said.

The Minister  pledged to reactivate the National Labour Conference and expedite the passage of the revised Labour Bill into law by the end of the year to promote decent work standards.

The Minister also paid tribute to past and present leaders of the TUC for keeping alive the spirit of solidarity and collective bargaining, and saluted workers across all sectors for their daily contributions to Ghana’s growth.

“On behalf of the Government of Ghana, I congratulate the Trades Union Congress on this remarkable milestone. May the next decades be even more impactful in advancing the rights and welfare of Ghanaian workers,” he declared.
