President John Dramani Mahama has charged Ghana’s newly appointed diplomatic heads with extending the government’s Reset Agenda beyond national borders through strategic partnerships and enhanced global engagement.

Speaking at the commissioning of the newly appointed envoys on Thursday in Accra, the President outlined how diplomatic missions should project the domestic reform agenda internationally while cultivating partnerships that unlock opportunities for Ghana.

“While much of this work will be driven domestically, your role is to extend this agenda abroad by cultivating strategic partnerships, unlocking opportunities and deepening Ghana’s place in the global community,” President Mahama told the diplomats.

The President described the Reset Agenda as the administration’s blueprint to restore hope, rebuild trust, and rekindle movement towards prosperity through re-anchoring integrity, transparency, and inclusive development governance.

He emphasized that diplomatic missions play a vital role in projecting these values globally.

President Mahama called for a modern diplomacy approach that responds effectively to contemporary global challenges.

He stressed that while Ghana’s foreign policy remains anchored on enduring principles of pan-Africanism, peaceful co-existence, and pursuit of justice, today’s world demands diplomacy that is agile, innovative, and purposeful.

“Global shifts in geopolitics, economics and technology require Ghana not only to respond, but also to actively shape trends in ways that benefit our people,” the President explained.

The conference represents an innovation in Ghana’s diplomatic practice, bringing together heads of mission and newly appointed personnel for the first time under a single programme.

This approach demonstrates the Government’s commitment to coordinated and results-oriented foreign service delivery.

President Mahama placed strong emphasis on fiscal responsibility, directing diplomatic missions to adhere strictly to the Public Financial Management Act and relevant regulations in their stewardship of public resources.

He stressed that integrity must serve as the watchword for all diplomatic operations.

“The Public Financial Management Act and all relevant regulations must guide your stewardship of public resources that are put in your care,” the President stated, urging diplomats to guard the public purse with diligence.

The President emphasized that diplomatic responsibilities extend beyond representation to include strong leadership and sound administration.

He noted that the image of Ghana abroad is shaped not only by what diplomats say, but also by how they manage operations, serve citizens, and uphold the dignity of every Ghanaian under their care.

President Mahama stressed that success of the Reset Agenda depends on close coordination between missions abroad, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and all government agencies.

He also emphasized the importance of effective engagement with the private sector, civil society, and Ghana’s diaspora community.

The President called on the diplomats to ensure that efficiency, service, and ethical governance values that are being entrenched domestically shine through in every mission abroad.

He urged them to demonstrate that Ghana’s commitment to good governance extends beyond national boundaries.
