President Mahama Arrives in Japan for TICAD IX Conference

President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in Tokyo, Japan, aboard Emirates flight EK 318 to participate in the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD IX) scheduled for Yokohama from August 20-22, 2025.

TICAD is an international conference focused on African development that has been led by the Government of Japan since 1993.

The conference is co-organized with the United Nations, the United Nations Development Programme, the African Union Commission, and the World Bank to promote dialogue and partnerships between Africa and Japan.

The three-day conference in Yokohama will bring together African leaders, Japanese officials, and international development partners to discuss cooperation frameworks and investment opportunities across the continent.

President Mahama is expected to participate in various sessions addressing trade, investment, and development priorities during his stay in Japan.

The President’s participation in TICAD IX forms part of his official two-country visit to Japan and Singapore aimed at deepening bilateral relations and expanding trade and investment links with Asian partners.

Following the conference, President Mahama will continue his diplomatic mission with a state visit to Singapore.

TICAD conferences have served as a platform for Japan to engage with African countries on development cooperation, with previous editions resulting in various partnerships and investment commitments between Japanese companies and African governments.
