RTI SENSITIZATION DRIVES TRANSPARENCY AND CIVIC AWARENESS IN TANO SOUTH

Efforts to strengthen transparency and citizen participation in governance were advanced in the Tano South Municipality following a public sensitization programme on the Right to Information (RTI) Law, which was held on 19th October 2025 at the Kwasu-Nyinasua Presbyterian School. The initiative targeted teachers and staff, equipping them with essential knowledge on their rights to access information from public institutions.

Facilitated by the Right to Information Officers from the Tano South Municipal Assembly, the session provided a detailed overview of the RTI framework and its significance in promoting accountability and good governance. Participants were introduced to the legal provisions that guarantee citizens access to public information, reinforcing the idea that transparency is fundamental to effective public service delivery and community development.

The engagement also focused on the practical procedures for requesting information, including the steps involved, required documentation, and timelines within which institutions are mandated to respond. Officers emphasized the active role citizens, including students and staff must play in utilizing the RTI Law to monitor government activities and request for information.

The programme was well received, with participants expressing appreciation for the knowledge gained and its relevance to their professional and civic responsibilities. By extending RTI education to schools and community institutions, the Division continues to demonstrate its commitment to building an informed and empowered citizenry, capable of contributing meaningfully to governance and sustainable development.
