Ghana Navy Seeks Stronger International Cooperation to Boost Gulf of Guinea Security

The Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing, has reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to strengthening international collaboration to enhance maritime security and ensure stability across the Gulf of Guinea.

He made the remarks at the G7++ Friends of the Gulf of Guinea (G7++FOGG) Security Meeting held in Paris, where senior defence and security officials from G7 countries and partner states gathered to discuss coordinated strategies to improve maritime safety across West and Central Africa.

Rear Admiral Bessing highlighted the importance of sustained partnerships in addressing maritime threats in the region, noting ongoing collaborative efforts between the Ghana Navy and international partners, particularly France.

These include joint patrols, maritime surveillance operations, training exchanges, hydrographic cooperation, and coordinated regional exercises.

He further emphasised Ghana’s determination to deepen capacity building initiatives, strengthen riverine and hydrographic capabilities, and enhance overall operational readiness.

According to him, these efforts are aimed at improving the professional competence and resilience of naval personnel, as well as boosting maritime domain awareness across the Gulf of Guinea.
