Ghana Rescues Trafficking Victims from Côte d’Ivoire Network

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the rescue and repatriation of twenty-eight Ghanaians who were trafficked to Côte d’Ivoire through what authorities described as a sophisticated human trafficking network.

A press statement issued by the Ministry on Monday stated that the victims, mostly young people, arrived in Ghana on Sunday, May 10, 2026, following a joint operation involving security operatives and officials of Ghana’s Embassy in Abidjan.

It said the rescued human trafficking victims are safely in Ghana and are currently assisting with further investigations.

“The Government of Ghana conveys commendations to Ivorian authorities for the effective collaboration and shared intelligence,” it added.

According to the release, Ghanaians are advised to be extra vigilant and avoid becoming victims of such trafficking schemes.

It read, “Meanwhile, the Mahama Administration assures that all efforts are being deployed to dismantle these criminal networks and bring the masterminds to justice.”

The Ministry, therefore, urged the public to be conscious of the dangers associated with engaging unlicensed recruitment agencies which promise travel and job opportunities.

“The public is encouraged to confirm the validity of any advertisement/offer with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment Relations and Ghana’s diplomatic missions abroad to avoid falling prey,” it outlined.

It said the welfare of all Ghanaians remains its utmost priority.
