National Blood Service Receives Significant Support from Charitable Foundations

The National Blood Service (NBS) has received significant donations from the Wishing Well Foundation and the Samaritan Foundation of the Freemason Lodge of Ghana, with the aim to bolster mobile and frequent blood donation initiatives through essential supplies such as medical supplies, consumables, specialised equipment, and branded T-shirts in Accra.

The president of the Samaritan Foundation, Mr Daniel Awuah-Darko, donated 10,000 blood drive-branded T-shirts to support NBS’s blood donation efforts, emphasising the foundation’s mission to revive and enhance the already existing partnership with the NBS in blood donation activities nationwide.

He said they intended to ensure that local blood banks are sufficiently stocked to save lives and will launch the first phase in the Southern Region of Ghana, with plans to expand to other areas in the future.

The Personal Assistant to the Founder of the Wishing Well Foundation, Madam Sedem Klutse, reiterated her organisation’s ongoing collaboration with NBS over the past five years, which has successfully organised an annual blood drive in honour of the late Madam Gifty Champion, who tragically lost her life due to the unavailability of her blood type.

She expressed confidence that their continued efforts would not only raise awareness but also enhance the morale and efficiency of the staff and volunteers working in the field.

The Chief Executive Officer of NBS, Dr Shirley Owusu-Ofori, expressed appreciation for the generous donations and assured that the contributions would be used effectively to improve blood service delivery nationwide.

She appreciated the two Foundations for their steadfast support, highlighting how these donations play a crucial role in the national effort to establish a safe and effective blood supply system grounded in 100% voluntary, unpaid blood donation.

“As Ghana continues to face challenges in maintaining adequate blood supplies, these collaborative initiatives inspire hope and demonstrate the power of community-driven efforts in saving lives,” Dr Owusu Ofori stated.

The Samaritan Foundation serves as a charitable arm of the Grand Lodge of Ghana, focusing on empowering communities through humanitarian initiatives and philanthropic endeavours.
