Tourism Minister calls for stronger Board–Management collaboration.
January 30, 2026 News 0 CommentThe Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Madam Abla Gomashie, has called on chairpersons of governing boards of agencies under the ministry to strengthen collaboration with management of the agencies while maintaining clear boundaries between strategic oversight and day-to-day operations.
Speaking at an orientation training for board chairs on Friday, in Accra, the Minister emphasized that board chairs play an important role in providing policy direction, ensuring good corporate governance, and safeguarding public resources.
“Generally, the board chair is responsible for driving the organization’s mission through strategic oversight, facilitating effective board meetings, ensuring governance compliance, and supporting chief executive officers in delivering results,” the Minister said.
She stressed that all decisions taken by boards and institutions must align with the vision of the President and the broader national development agenda.
According to the Minister, the orientation aims to assess whether leadership across the ministry’s agencies remains aligned with previously agreed strategic directions and to identify areas for improvement.
Madam Gomashie further encouraged agency heads to look beyond government subventions by exploring alternative funding opportunities to enhance visibility and impact.
She highlighted the importance of a strong working relationship between boards, management, and technocrats, noting that many challenges in public administration arise when rules are unclear and strategic roadmaps are blurred.
Speaking on behalf of the Chief Director of the Ministry, Mr. Geoffrey Tamakloe, a Director from the Tourism Ministry, said the program was designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills required to successfully fulfill their responsibilities.
He acknowledged the unique challenges of public sector work and stressed the need for boards to effectively deploy experience, skills, and resources to justify public investment.
Mr. Tamakloe thanked participants for their commitment and reaffirmed the Ministry’s dedication to continuous capacity building and effective public sector management.
The orientation also featured presentations by Mr. Michael Adu-Darko, Esq., of the Public Services Commission, who trained participants on public service procedures and governance.
