The Northern Regional Minister, Mr Ali Adolf John, has handed over 100 water pumps to Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the region to boost irrigational farming.
These water pumps were seized from illegal miners through the government’s anti-galamsey operations.
Mr John entreated the Chief Executives of these Assemblies to ensure that the water pumps are put to proper use, emphasising that the initiative was to boost agricultural productivity through irrigational farming and ensure the success of the government’s flagship programme dubbed Feed Ghana.
He also cautioned them against using the equipment for illegal mining activities and urged the Regional Directorate of Agriculture to monitor how the water pumps are used.
The District Chief Executive for Kumbungu, Mr Imoro Yakubu Kakpagu, who received the equipment on behalf of his colleagues, thanked the Minister for Food and Agriculture and the Regional Minister, adding that the intervention was timely and assured them that the water pumps would be put to good use.
The handing over ceremony, which took place at the forecourt of the Department of Agriculture in Tamale, was attended by DCE for Kumbungu, Mr Imoro Yakubu Kakpagu; the Northern Regional Director of Agriculture, Hajia Hawa Musah, and representatives from the various MMDAs across the region.
