The Sanitation Court of AMA Remands Offenders for Open Defecation

In a decisive move to maintain hygiene and combat the issue of open defecation in Accra, the Sanitation Court of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has remanded seven individuals to prison for failing to pay a fine of GH¢600.

The operation was spearheaded by the Head of the Environmental Health Department, Florence Kuukyi, along with dedicated Environmental Health Officers, who executed the arrests across Bubuashie, Jamestown, and Chorkor.

The AMA’s Head of Public Affairs, Gilbert Nii Ankrah, emphasised the assembly’s commitment to maintaining public health standards through 24-hour monitoring.

He said this initiative reflects the AMA’s intensified efforts to ensure compliance with sanitation by-laws, reinforcing the importance of hygiene in safeguarding the community’s well-being.

The ongoing operations mark a significant step in curbing public nuisance and enhancing living conditions in the metropolis.
