The National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons (NASCA) has conducted a strategic sensitization program at Tema Technical Senior High School, engaging more than 400 students and staff members during the school’s Student Representative Council (SRC) Leadership Induction Ceremony.
The awareness session focused on the growing threat of illicit small arms proliferation and its implications for national security and public safety.
Participants were educated on Ghana’s legal frameworks governing firearms possession, as well as the severe penalties associated with unauthorized ownership and misuse.
According to the Commission, the initiative forms part of a broader national strategy aimed at promoting responsible citizenship and enhancing grassroots awareness of peace and security issues.
By engaging young leaders and integrating small arms education into youth leadership platforms, the Commission hopes to empower students to become advocates for community safety and national cohesion.
The exercise reflects the Commission’s commitment to preventive education and community-based approaches in addressing the illegal arms trade.
It also aligns with ongoing efforts to promote sustainable peace across Ghana through partnerships with educational institutions and community organizations.
The Commission reiterated its pledge to continue collaborating with schools and civic groups nationwide to strengthen collective efforts toward maintaining peace and safeguarding lives.
