The Public Relations Coordinating Division (PRCD) helps the Department to undertake its mandate by providing Public Relations support to Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), Regional Coordinating Councils (RCCs), and Ghana’s Foreign Missions abroad. The Division through the PR Management Unit and Sector-Specific PR Reporting Unit implements the Department’s publicity and advocacy plans and provides technical assistance on media relations, social marketing and networking activities.

The Division currently has eighty-eight (88) PROs serving in Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), Regional Coordinating Councils (RCCs), and Ghana’s Foreign Missions.

Functions of the Public Relations Coordinating Division

  • Provide PR professionals for MMDAs and ensure PROs serve the needs of client organisations.
  • Support PROs to develop and implement annual PR and stakeholder engagement plans for their client organisation.
  • Collate and analyse PR reports on the activities within the MDAs, RCCs and MMDAs including Ghana’s Missions abroad, for the attention of the Director of ISD and the Sector Minister.
  • Organize annual training and capacity building programmes for PROs.
  • Undertake annual Public Relations Performance Evaluation Exercises.

PR Management Unit

This Unit Coordinates the public relations activities of PROs in terms of training performance assessment, monitoring, and quality assurance for effective government communication.

Sector Specific Unit

This Unit is responsible for collating and analyzing PR reports from PROs submitted on the government online PR reporting and information sharing platform known as Bonsu.

Key Accomplishments of PRCD

  • Established the Bonsu Platform for real-time coordination and reporting of PRO activities across the public service.
  • Organized the 2023 Government PR Excellence Awards (GoPREX) to honor outstanding PROs and PR-friendly leadership.
  • 2020 – 2022 Annual Reports on RTI implementation successfully laid in parliament by Hon.
  • Rolled out specialized training programs for PROs over the past three years in areas such as:
    1. Institutionalized the PROs Virtual “Need-to-Know” Series, enabling PROs to brief one another and ISD officers on critical government programmes within their institutions.
