President John Dramani Mahama will break ground for Ghana’s first Farmer Service Centre this Friday at Afram Plains.
This marks the beginning of a nationwide rollout of 50 such centres across the country’s major agricultural producing areas.
The President disclosed this on Tuesday at the opening of the Ghana Agrotech Fair 2026 in Accra.
“I am going to break ground for the first Farmer Service Centre this Friday at Afram Plains.
“Government intends to build 50 of these centres nationwide in the main agricultural producing areas. The first phase will cover 11 centres,”he said
President Mahama said farmers would be required to register with their local centre, through which they would access mechanization support.
“They will get mechanization support in terms of tractors, plowing, harrowing, transporting, fertilizers and shellers for processing their grains, and many other support,” he said, adding that extension officers would also be stationed at each centre to provide farmers with practical production guidance.
He explained that the initiative is a direct response to the gap between policy commitment and practical support for farmers on the ground, saying the centres were designed to bring services directly into farming communities rather than leaving farmers to navigate support systems from a distance.
