President John Dramani Mahama has challenged leaders and citizens worldwide to anchor their actions in truth and pursue excellence as fundamental principles for advancing human civilization.
The President delivered this charge on Friday, moments after Yonsei University conferred an Honorary Doctorate in Public Administration on him in Seoul, Republic of Korea.
He emphasized that the world must make deliberate choices that prioritize peace over conflict, cooperation over confrontation, and hope over despair.
President Mahama stated that the honorary doctorate degree represents more than personal recognition, accepting it on behalf of all Ghanaians as a symbol of the deep respect, mutual relations, and admiration between Ghana and Korea.
He expressed profound gratitude to the government and people of Korea for the warm hospitality extended to him and his delegation throughout the visit.
The President thanked the Board of Trustees, President Yoon, the faculty, staff, and students of Yonsei University for the memorable occasion.
“And I say in Korean, Gamsahamnida,” President Mahama stated, using the Korean expression for gratitude.
He expressed conviction that the friendship between Ghana and Korea will continue to grow deeper and stronger, built on shared values and mutual commitment to development.
President Mahama addressed young people in Korea, particularly Yonsei University students, with an encouraging message using the Korean expression “Hwaiting,” which conveys support and motivation.
He invoked divine blessings on the Republic of Ghana, the Republic of Korea, and the entire world.
Professor Dong-Sup Yoon, President of Yonsei University, stated that President Mahama’s leadership has contributed not only to Ghana’s transformation and development but also to peace and coexistence in West Africa, while shaping global conversations on sustainable development.
He described this legacy as one that resonates deeply with the university community and the values Yonsei upholds.
The ceremony took place during President Mahama’s five-day working visit to the Republic of Korea, which has included bilateral talks, strategic agreements, and engagements aimed at deepening cooperation between the two nations.
