NHIA Staff donate GH¢800,000 to Ghana Medical Trust Fund

Staff of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) have donated GH¢800,000 to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, popularly known as Mahama Cares, to support the Fund’s efforts to improve healthcare delivery in the country.

The donation was presented on Monday in Accra.

Speaking at the event, the Chief Executive of the NHIA, Dr Victor Asare Bampoe, said the contribution was made voluntarily by staff of the Authority who strongly believe in the vision behind the establishment of the Fund.

According to him, the gesture demonstrates NHIA staff’s dedication to national healthcare initiatives focused on enhancing access to quality medical care for Ghanaians.

“We believe in the vision of the President in setting up this Fund. We know it is something we must support, and we are proud of the work being done here at the Ghana Medical Trust Fund,” Dr Bampoe said.

He added that the staff of the Authority willingly came together to contribute to the support of the Fund’s objectives.

“Staff of NHIA decided, of their own volition, to come together to contribute their widow’s mite in support of the noble effort of the President and yourself,” he stated.

Receiving the cheque on behalf of the Fund, the Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Ms Obuobia Darko Opoku, expressed deep appreciation to the NHIA for its continued support since the Fund’s establishment.

She noted that beyond financial contributions, the Fund has benefited significantly from the Authority’s technical expertise and human resource support over the years.

“We want to appreciate you this morning and let you know that your efforts have brought us this far, and we know that your continued support will push us to even greater heights,” Ms Darko Opoku said.

She stressed that the progress made by the Ghana Medical Trust Fund would not have been possible without the consistent backing of the NHIA and expressed optimism about strengthening the partnership between the two institutions.

“We are because you are, and we are very grateful,” she added, while praying for an even stronger and more fruitful collaboration in the years ahead.
