National Technical Working Committee on GITFiC Agenda 2031 Holds Inaugural Meetings

The National Technical Working Committee (NTWC) on the Ghana International Trade and Finance Conference (GITFiC) Agenda 2031 has successfully held its first series of meetings, marking a significant step in Ghana’s leadership role in Africa’s debt and trade agenda.

The meetings, held from August 26 to 29 at the National AfCFTA Coordinating Office in Accra, brought together key state institutions and agencies to operationalise the GITFiC Agenda 2031, a six-year framework aimed at advancing Africa’s role in the Global Debt Initiative (GDI) and strengthening the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

The meetings focused on operationalising the GITFiC Agenda 2031, a framework developed by GITFiC with intellectual contributions from the United Nations and the African Development Bank.

It aims to enhance Africa’s role in the GDI and support the implementation of AfCFTA by promoting the adoption of national curricula, establishing student clubs, engaging youth through awareness campaigns, and organising academic congresses.

During the sessions, the committee adopted the name National Technical Working Committee (NTWC) to reflect its broad institutional participation.

It also confirmed that four years of Agenda 2031 have already been integrated into Ghana’s national development plan through the NDPC.

Members further reviewed key documents, including the GDI Position Paper, Agenda 2031, the 8th GITFiC Conference Communiqué, the MOTAI review, and the NDPC review.

The committee agreed on Terms of Reference (ToR) to guide its operations and align responsibilities.

Additionally, discussions covered financial, logistical, and advocacy strategies to strengthen Ghana’s role within the Global South.

The committee also noted that preparations have begun for the upcoming 9th GITFiC Conference, which will host the 2nd Global Debt Initiative Dialogue and the 1st AfCFTA Student Congress in Accra later this year.

The NTWC reaffirmed its commitment to delivering high-level impact and ensuring coordinated national action under Agenda 2031, while enhancing collaboration and maintaining continuous engagement through a dedicated digital platform.

The outcomes of these meetings will be submitted to the Office of the President as part of Ghana’s strategic roadmap to advance debt reforms, trade integration, and economic diplomacy across Africa and the Global South.

The NTWC is chaired by the Chief Executive Officer of GITFiC, Mr. Selasi Koffi Ackom, and co-chaired by the Assistant Director of Research at the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), Dr. Michael Kusi Appiah.

Other members of the committee include representatives from the Ministry of Finance, the Bank of Ghana, the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Information Services Department, the NDPC, and GITFiC.
