The Ministry of Health has condemned the attack on health professionals at the emergency department of Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge).

According to a statement released on Monday in Accra, the ministry vehemently opposed any interference, violence, or assault against healthcare professionals.

“The Ministry views this development with utmost seriousness, as such actions compromise the delivery of critical healthcare services and endanger the lives of both patients and healthcare providers,” it stated.

MOH stated that the incident was being resolved immediately through urgent measures.

“Increase the Greater Accra Regional Hospital’s security to protect the public, employees, and patients, investigate the circumstances that led to the reported delay in care and address any gaps that may have contributed to the incident,” it emphasised.

The Ministry reaffirmed that healthcare workers’ safety and protection are of utmost importance and that it will not tolerate any behaviour that jeopardises their health or interferes with providing necessary healthcare services.

It noted that the Minister for Health, Mr Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has since visited the hospital and has been given first-hand information. It assured the Management and staff of the Ministry’s support and protection.

MOH called on the public to exercise patience, cooperation, and mutual respect to enable healthcare workers to provide effective and timely care.
