Interior Minister calls for Transparency and Strategic Performance Reviews to Strengthen Security Governance

The Minister for the Interior, Mr Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, has called on agencies under the Ministry to be more open, transparent, and strategic in their approach to performance assessment.

This, according to him, would strengthen security governance and improve service delivery nationwide.

Speaking at the Ministry’s 2025 Annual Performance Review Workshop, Mr Muntaka described the forum as a critical opportunity to assess institutional performance, identify gaps, and set clear priorities to achieve improved outcomes in 2026 and beyond.

The workshop was held under the theme “Strengthening Security Governance, Accountability, and Service Delivery through Performance Review and Strategic Alignment.”

The Minister highlighted notable gains within the sector, including enhanced inter-agency collaboration, progress in digitisation, and improvements in emergency response systems.

He acknowledged that significant challenges remain, including evolving crime trends, increased pressure on border security, and growing public scrutiny of accountability and respect for human rights.

Mr Muntaka urged Heads of Agencies to approach the performance review process with transparency, ownership, and strategic focus.

He emphasised the need for stronger alignment and coordination among institutions, stressing their collective responsibility to deliver security services that inspire public confidence and support national development.

The Chief Director of the Ministry, Mrs Doreen Annan, observed that the workshop was not meant as a fault-finding exercise but as a solutions-focused platform geared towards fostering learning, improving coordination, and increasing institutional effectiveness across the sector.
