Government Confirms Deaths of Eight Citizens in Burkina Faso Jihadist Attack

The Government of Ghana has confirmed that eight Ghanaian citizens have died following a jihadist attack in the northern Burkina Faso town of Titao that occurred on February 14 2026.

A statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday in Accra reported that seven members of the Ghana National Tomatoes Traders and Transporters Association, who were engaged in lawful trading activities in the Titao area, were attacked and killed by terrorists. Additionally, the latest victim was among four compatriots who were seriously injured and receiving medical treatment before passing away.

“President John Mahama and the Government of Ghana convey profound commiserations to the families and loved ones of all who have lost their lives,” it said.

It noted that the Government of Ghana strongly condemns this mindless act of terror and expresses its solidarity with the Government and people of Burkina Faso in this dark hour.

“This despicable horror must remind us of the urgent need for a new collective approach in pursuing regional security as Ghana has consistently called for, and which we reiterated at last month’s High-Level Consultative Conference on Regional Cooperation and Security hosted by President John Mahama,” it added.

It said, on the instructions of President Mahama and with competent medical consultations, the Government of Ghana has decided to immediately conduct medical evacuation by air of all Ghanaian victims in Burkina Faso. The victims are expected in Ghana on Wednesday, with the Ghana Air Force carrying out the medevac.

According to the release, Ghana’s Ambassador in Burkina Faso and our Embassy staff are actively involved in the matter and will maintain direct contact with the injured compatriots.

“We acknowledge the full cooperation of the Government of Burkina Faso in granting necessary approvals to facilitate the Government’s interventions aimed at protecting our citizens,” it added.
