Ghana –Turkey Strengthens Cooperation at Global Child Labour Conference

The Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Mr Abdul Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, has reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to international cooperation in the fight against child labour.

He said this on Thursday in a bilateral meeting with the Turkish Minister of Labour on the sidelines of the International Conference on the Elimination of Child Labour.

The engagement also focused on strengthening collaboration between Ghana and Turkey in key areas, including policy exchange, capacity building, labour inspections, and the promotion of decent work as a sustainable solution to eliminating child labour.

Dr Pelpuo underscored the importance of strong cross-country partnerships in addressing the root causes of child labour, particularly poverty, limited access to quality education, and the prevalence of informal employment.

He emphasised that coordinated global action remains key to protecting vulnerable children and ensuring their access to education and social protection systems.

Both ministers expressed readiness to explore technical cooperation initiatives aimed at strengthening labour administration systems and safeguarding the rights and welfare of children.

The International Conference on the Elimination of Child Labour brought together governments, workers’ representatives, and development partners to accelerate global efforts toward ending child labour in all its forms.
