Foreign Affairs Minister Unveils New Buses to Improve Staff Transportation

The Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has unveiled a fleet of newly acquired buses aimed at improving transportation for its staff.

Speaking at the ceremony on Thursday in Accra, the minister expressed his satisfaction with the initiative, which addresses long-standing concerns regarding staff commuting challenges.

‘’On my first day in office, I met with staff who voiced their struggles with public transportation, it was clear that staff, particularly the junior members, were concerned about their mode of transport to and from work,” he noted.

He assured them that acquiring buses would be a priority during his first year, a promise now fulfilled with the acquisition of six Toyota Coaster buses.

Mr. Okudzeto added that, “today we are handing over six Toyota Coaster buses fully air-conditioned and accommodating 29 passengers each, emphasizing the importance of comfort for Foreign Service officers, who often dress formally for their roles.

He took the opportunity to commend the team involved in the procurement process, saying, “We provided clear specifications and held a competitive tender, ensuring the best pricing and quality for our ministry.”

The minister also urged the drivers to adhere to road safety regulations, emphasizing, “You carry the image of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and we expect you to drive professionally.”

He said the timing of the bus delivery aligns with upcoming events, including the Diaspora Summit, providing essential transportation support for guests arriving in the country.

“This is happening at an opportune time to help us with logistical arrangements for our guests”, he added.

The addition of these buses is expected to enhance the work environment for staff, allowing for easier commuting and ultimately contributing to greater productivity within the ministry.
