The Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Mrs Emelia Arthur, has welcomed a delegation from the Abidjan Legacy Programme on an Exploratory Technical Mission to Ghana.
The three-day mission, led by the Programme’s Coordination Unit, aims to understudy Ghana’s fisheries and aquaculture practices, with particular emphasis on inland fisheries management in hydroelectric dam reservoirs.
During the engagement held last Thursday in Accra, the visiting team expressed strong interest in Ghana’s innovative strategies for promoting aquaculture as a means of enhancing food security, creating employment, and supporting sustainable livelihoods.
Mrs Arthur, in her remarks, reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to regional collaboration and knowledge sharing in advancing sustainable fisheries.
She emphasised the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the blue economy and highlighted the role of cooperation in tackling common challenges facing the fisheries sector.
“The Ministry is always ready to share our experiences and best practices with our regional partners. Through collaboration, we can build a more resilient and sustainable fisheries industry across West Africa,” Mrs Arthur said.
The meeting emphasised the importance of cross-country learning and technical exchange in addressing shared challenges, including declining fish stocks, aquaculture expansion, and food security concerns.
It also reinforced the longstanding ties between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire, as both countries work together to build a sustainable and inclusive fisheries sector under the Abidjan Legacy Programme.
