Eastern Regional Peace Council Organises Peace Education Programme to Promote Conflict Resolution

The Eastern Regional Peace Council (ERPC) has organised a peace education programme on conflict prevention, management, and tolerance at the Osabene English and Arabic Basic School in the Eastern Region.

The engagement aimed at equipping students and teachers with practical skills in non-violent conflict resolution, while promoting tolerance, discipline, and peaceful coexistence within the school environment.

Speaking at the programme on Wednesday, the Programs Manager of ERPC, Mr Osmond Appiah Danquah, emphasised that conflict was a natural occurrence in schools and other social settings, but that the manner in which conflicts are handled determines whether they will escalate into violence or become opportunities for growth and understanding.

“Conflict itself is not the problem, but how we manage it that matters,” he said, encouraging students to embrace dialogue, patience, and mutual respect as effective tools for resolving disputes.

Mr Danquah urged learners to seek peaceful means to address grievances and to involve teachers or school authorities, when necessary, rather than resorting to aggression.

The Administrator of ERPC, Mrs Rose Padiki Ayertey, highlighted the legal implications of violent behaviour among minors and reminded students that acts such as assault and bullying could constitute criminal offences under Ghanaian law.

She stressed the need for students to understand their rights and responsibilities, adding that developing a culture of respect and discipline at a young age is critical to building a peaceful society.

The programme forms part of ERPC’s ongoing efforts to promote peace education across schools in the region. It reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to fostering peaceful learning environments and nurturing responsible, law-abiding future leaders in the Eastern Region.
