Communication Minister Engages Courier Riders on Fair Regulation

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Mr Samuel Nartey George, has met with courier and delivery riders to address concerns about excessive platform charges, police harassment, and regulatory challenges.

Speaking at the meeting on Wednesday in Accra, he acknowledged the vital role courier and delivery services play in Ghana’s expanding digital economy, especially in supporting e-commerce and small businesses.

He assured the riders that the government recognises their contributions and remains committed to creating a fair and enabling environment for their work.

The Minister stated that his Ministry, together with the Postal and Courier Services Regulatory Commission and the Ministry of Transport, is creating a policy framework. This framework will enable independent riders to register directly on delivery platforms without needing to join fleet operators, ensuring fairer fees and improved working conditions.

Mr George also pledged to engage the Minister for the Interior to address incidents of police harassment involving riders, emphasising that legitimate workers should not be unfairly targeted.

He concluded by urging courier riders to adhere to all relevant regulations, maintain professionalism, and continue making positive contributions to Ghana’s digital transformation agenda.
