Atebubu Paramount Chief Proposes Establishment of Military Barracks

The Paramount Chief of the Atebubu Traditional Area, Ohempon Dr Yeboah Asiamah, has proposed the establishment of a military barracks in Atebubu.

He suggested this during a courtesy call on the Deputy Minister for Defence, Mr Ernest Brogya Genfi, on Tuesday in Accra.

In his remarks, Ohempon Dr Asiamah explained that the Southern Command had previously conducted feasibility studies in the area, hence he had since released about 250 acres of land to the Ghana Armed Forces for the project.

The Paramount Chief also suggested additional investment opportunities, including poultry farming, noting the high demand for chicken and eggs in Atebubu and nearby communities.

Mr Brogya Genfi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding military infrastructure nationwide, adding that plans were in place to establish barracks in all regions, with work already underway in some areas.

He revealed that the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, has directed that new regional barracks projects should include airstrips, and that Atebubu is among the locations captured under the initiative.

The Deputy Minister thanked the Paramount Chief for allocating the land and assured him that he would visit the Atebubu Traditional Area in March and indicated that the necessary traditional rites would be performed to formally commence the project.
