President Mahama Urges Muslim Communities to Join Gov’t Income Generation Initiatives

President John Dramani Mahama has called on Muslim organizations to take advantage of government income generation programs, noting that many deprived communities targeted by these interventions have majority Muslim populations.

Speaking when the Ghana Muslim Mission paid a courtesy call on him at the presidency on Tuesday, Mahama outlined several programs designed to build skills and generate income for families in underserved areas.

The President emphasized the Poultry Revitalization Programme, which provides families with 50 pullets—four-week-old chickens that have received all necessary injections and are ready for market in another four to five weeks.

“You don’t need to be unemployed to do it. You can be a teacher. And if every four or five weeks you have 50 chickens to sell, that money is going to go into your pocket and supplement your income,” Mahama said.

He explained that anyone with a small backyard can enroll in the program, including nurses, teachers and other salaried workers looking to supplement their earnings.

The President also encouraged participation in the National Apprenticeship Programme, the Adwumawura Programme, and the One Million Coders Programme, all aimed at equipping young people with skills for the job market.

“Our vision is to target deprived communities especially and be able to execute our social interventions, not only in education, but also in skills building, in income generation,” Mahama stated.

He said organizations like the Ghana Muslim Mission should position their members to benefit from these opportunities.

“A lot of those deprived communities are, to a large extent, communities that are majority Muslim. And so I urge that organisations like yours take advantage of all those programmes,” the President added.

During the visit, Mahama also announced that 200 school buses will be distributed in 2026, with Ghana Muslim Mission schools receiving priority consideration after years of being overlooked.

The President praised the Ghana Muslim Mission for its educational work and discipline, describing the organization as a model for other faiths.
