Former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings Passes Away

The Government has announced the passing of former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings. 

Mrs Rawlings, a prominent political figure and founder of the 31st December Women’s Movement, died on the morning of Thursday, October 23, 2025, after a short illness.

The announcement was made in an official statement signed by the Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, Mr Felix Kwakye Ofosu,

Mrs Rawlings was the wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings. During her time as First Lady, she was a formidable and influential presence in Ghanaian politics and social activism.

She is widely celebrated for founding the 31st December Women’s Movement in 1982. 

The organization became a powerful force for the political and economic empowerment of Ghanaian women, championing their involvement in national development and grassroots politics.

News of her death has sent shockwaves across the nation, as Ghanaians from all walks of life remember her as an advocate  for women’s rights and a central figure in the country’s recent history.
