A fire has broken out at the Ghana Grid Company’s Akosombo Substation in the Eastern Region, disrupting operations and affecting power supply in parts of the country.
GRIDCo said in a press statement issued on Thursday that the fire was reported at approximately 2:01 p.m., with emergency response teams deployed immediately to the site to assess the situation and begin remedial action.
“A full evaluation is currently underway to determine the extent of the impact and to enable technical teams to commence processes to restore normal operations as swiftly as possible,” the company said.
GRIDCo assured the public that its technical teams were actively working to stabilise the system and keep disruptions to a minimum, urging residents to remain calm.
“The situation is under control,” the company said, adding that further updates would be provided as more information became available.
