The Obuasi Municipal Assembly (OMA) is set to partner a UK-based non-governmental organisation, Mankind Foundation, to provide free specialised healthcare services for residents of the municipality.
The proposed partnership seeks to host a team of medical specialists at a yet-to-be-designated government health facility in Obuasi to offer free screening and treatment for cancer and fibroids, among other health conditions. As part of the initiative, medical specialists from Zulekha Hospital in Dubai are expected to visit Obuasi to support the exercise once the agreement is finalised.
The delegation from the Mankind Foundation paid a courtesy call on the Obuasi Municipal Assembly on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, to formally present the proposal and explore avenues for collaboration.
Speaking during the meeting, the Founder and Leader of the delegation, Mr. Godson Opoku Acheampong, said the initiative was inspired by the growing burden and high cost of treating conditions such as cancer and fibroids, particularly among low-income earners.
According to him, his decision to lead the intervention was driven by a desire to give back to his hometown.
“As a native of Obuasi living in the United Kingdom, I see it as a moral responsibility to contribute to improving the wellbeing of my people,” he stated.
Mr. Acheampong explained that, in pursuit of this goal, the Foundation reached out to potential partners, with Zulekha Hospital in Dubai responding positively, leading to the current medical intervention. He noted that the team has already undertaken several medical outreach programmes and is now seeking to establish a more permanent presence in Obuasi to provide continuous care at no cost.
He further disclosed that the Foundation recently screened over 500 women in Obuasi and Kumasi as part of its initial outreach efforts.
Welcoming the delegation on behalf of the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Faustilove Appiah Kannin, the Municipal Coordinating Director, Madam Joyce Akosua Angmorteh, commended the Foundation for its humanitarian work and assured them of the Assembly’s support.
“We are committed to this cause, and I will ensure that the Assembly provides every assistance required to make this collaboration successful,” she said.
She pledged that the Assembly would facilitate the initiative by availing the necessary resources to enable the medical team to carry out its work effectively.
The meeting was attended by the Municipal Health Director, officials from the Municipal Health Directorate, the Municipal Finance Officer, the Aide to the Municipal Chief Executive, and the Municipal Information Officer.
The Mankind Foundation was represented by its Founder, Mr. Godson Opoku Acheampong, alongside three medical specialists from Zulekha Hospital, Dubai.
