2026 budget to consolidate gains, accelerate transformation and secure Prosperity-Finance minister

The Minister for finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has indicated that the 2026 budget represents the next phase of the nation’s renewal, a practical forward-looking plan to consolidate gains, accelerate transformation and secure prosperity for all Ghanaians

This was at the presentation of the 2026 budget statement and economic policy aimed at resetting growth, jobs and economic transformation, yesterday, at the parliament house in Accra.

He said the focus of 2026 and the medium term is to maintain a primary surplus of 1.5% of GDP on commitment basis, reduce debt vulnerabilities and create the fiscal space needed to invest in infrastructure, jobs and social protection.

The Minister said that the country’s economy was in distress, weighed down by debt, weakened by mismanagement and stripped of confidence when he assumed office hence the government has chosen a harder but higher route to succeed in freeing the nation from economic distress, the road to reform, renewal and resilience.

He touched on   some of the government’s successes in stabilizing the economy that includes; restoring fiscal discipline, bringing inflation under control, stabilizing the cedi and restoring investor confidence as well as restoring microeconomic stability.

Dr. Forson affirmed that it is a responsibility to turn the economic stability into sustained progress and make every growth felt in every home, community and enterprise adding that, the budget is the next chapter in building the Ghana that creates opportunities for all and protects the dignities and dreams of every citizen.

Dr. Forson underlined government’s pursuit to acquire a discipline data driven fiscal strategy that raises more revenue, and protects the most vulnerable while safe guarding long term stability and reaffirmed President Mahama’s commitment to ensuring that the nation’s integrity of the public finances will remain sacred.
