In a bid to promote transparency and accountability, the Right to Information (RTI) Officers at the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC) have taken steps to educate both students and frontline staff on their right to access information.
The sensitization exercise, held on March 11, 2025, aimed to empower students with the knowledge and processes involved in requesting information from the institution. In an interactive session, students were taken through the RTI law, their rights under it, and the appropriate channels to seek official information. Officers also encouraged them to make use of designated RTI representatives on their respective campuses whenever they needed access to relevant documents or data.

Beyond students, the exercise extended to key frontline staff, including receptionists, librarians, and security personnel, who are often the first point of contact for those seeking information. These staff members were educated on the importance of the RTI Act, how it applies within UniMAC, and the proper protocols for directing requests to the appropriate offices.
Speaking on the initiative, the RTI Officers emphasized that fostering a culture of openness within the university was essential in building trust and ensuring smooth communication between the administration and its stakeholders. They reiterated their commitment to continuous engagement to make information more accessible to the UniMAC community.

For many students, the session was an eye-opener, equipping them with the confidence to demand transparency from the institution. With the frontline staff also well-informed, the university is taking significant strides toward strengthening its information flow and accountability structures.
This sensitization program marks the beginning of sustained efforts by UniMAC to uphold the principles of the Right to Information law and ensure that both students and staff can fully exercise their rights to access information.
