A Deputy Minister for Information, Mr Pius Enam Hadzide, has said the media and journalists in particular, are the pillars that sustain democracies and development of any country.
He said: “Free, independent and pluralistic media empower citizens with information that facilitates the making of informed choices and actively participate in democratic process.
They can help enhance transparency and accountability by facilitating dialogue between decision-makers and the rest of society by exposing the abuse of power.
A strong media landscape also plays a crucial role in improving the public’s understanding of current or emerging issues, events, priorities and policy pronouncements and options.”
He assured journalists that government was committed to ensuring the safety of journalists in their line of duty.
The Deputy Minister was speaking at forum in Kumasi organised by the National Media Commission on the safety of journalists
