The Waste Management Department of Okaikoi South Sub-Metro District Council, in collaboration with the council’s RTI officer, organized a stakeholder meeting to sensitize participants on Solid Waste Collection. During the meeting, the RTI officer took the opportunity to educate approximately 100 attendees from various sectors within the Okaikoi South Sub-Metro District Council on the Right to Information Act 2019 (Act 989).
The presentation covered key provisions, objectives, and the benefits of the RTI Act, explaining how individuals can exercise their right to access information from public institutions and relevant private organizations involved with the government. Contact information and resources for further assistance were also provided.
Participants were encouraged to reach out with questions or for additional guidance in using the RTI Act, and a follow-up plan was established to address any ongoing queries or challenges that may arise. The Stakeholders Meeting successfully provided participants with a better understanding of their rights and the procedures for accessing information under the RTI Act. The knowledge gained is expected to empower them to promote transparency and accountability within the Okaikoi South Sub-Metro District Council and the wider district.
The RTI officer expressed gratitude to the participants for their active engagement and thanked David Aboagye, the Sub-Metro Director, for granting the opportunity to educate them about the RTI Act 2019. This initiative contributes to a well-informed and engaged community, fostering transparency and accountability.
