On January 29, 2024, the Shai-Osudoku District Assembly hosted an informative workshop for staff of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), led by Madam Felicia Hagan, the Right to Information Officer for the district. The session aimed to educate participants about their rights and responsibilities under the Right to Information Act (RTI Act), enhancing their ability to serve the community effectively.
Madam Hagan opened the workshop by detailing the history of the RTI Act in Ghana, which was enacted in 2019 (Act 989) after successfully passing through Parliament and receiving presidential assent. She underscored the significance of the Act in promoting transparency and accountability within government and publicly funded institutions, setting a solid foundation for its practical application in the participants’ daily tasks.
A key focus of the workshop was a comprehensive guide on how to apply for information under the RTI Act. Madam Hagan emphasized that the application process is straightforward, free of charge, and accessible to all, regardless of age or educational background. Attendees learned that fees only apply to the reproduction of requested information, ensuring maximum accessibility.

The workshop not only raised awareness about the RTI Act among NADMO staff but also fostered a culture of transparency within the organization. It concluded with an engaging Q&A session where participants sought further clarification on various aspects of the Act.
By equipping NADMO staff with this vital knowledge, the Shai-Osudoku District Assembly is not only enhancing disaster management efforts but also promoting informed citizenry and community development through principles of transparency and accountability.
