On September 12, 2024, the Asunafo North Municipal Assembly hosted an important sensitization session on the Right to Information (RTI) Act 2019 (Act 989) on Genesis FM, the local radio station  in Goaso Ahafo Regional Capital. The initiative was designed to educate the public on their constitutional right to access information held by public institutions. The session served as an educational platform to raise awareness about the RTI law, its importance, and its role in promoting transparency and accountability in governance, ultimately empowering citizens to engage more actively in public affairs.
The session was led by the Asunafo North RTI Officer, Mr. Obed Asante Amoah, who provided a detailed explanation of the RTI Act, including its historical context and the core principles behind it. Key topics covered included the process of requesting information, the fees involved, and how the RTI law benefits both individuals and the wider municipality by fostering open governance. Mr. Amoah emphasized the critical role of the RTI Act in ensuring public institutions remain transparent and accountable to the citizens they serve.
During a lively phone-in segment, residents called in to express their excitement about the RTI Act, highlighting the importance of having access to information as a fundamental right. Many callers commended the government for taking steps to ensure that citizens can hold public institutions accountable and make informed decisions. The engagement from the community showed a strong interest in learning more about their rights under the RTI law, marking a significant step in fostering a more informed and active citizenry.
