The RTI Officer at the Obuasi East District Assembly, Mr Collins Korankye Oppong has sensitized students of Akaporiso/Pomposo MA JHS and Lovely Home Academy on the RTI Act.
In his submission, Mr Korankye Oppong stated, he stated that the law was passed in Parliament in March 2019 as the Right to Information Act 2019 Act 989 and the President of Ghana Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo accented to it on May 12, 2019, in accordance with section 86 which came into force in January 2020.
On who qualifies to apply, Mr Oppong noted that any individual can apply for information from various public institutions irrespective of Nationality, ethnicity, educational background and wealth.
âThe one who qualifies to have access to information is a Person as stated in Section 1(1) âA person has the right to information subject to the provisions of this Act,â he stated.
He explained that an applicant must put his/her application into writing to the public institution and when an applicant is unable to make the application in writing due to illiteracy or disability, the applicant may make the request orally which will be produced into writing by the information officer to whom the application is made, who shall give a copy of the written request as recorded and duly authenticated to the applicant. Which is all stated in Section 18 of the RTI Act.
He assured students and staff of the schools of the commitment of the ATI Unit of the Information Services Department to assisting the public in having access to information.
